4-1/2 c. flour
3-3/4 tsp. baking powder
1-1/8 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. sugar
2 tsp. anise seeds
1/4 c. dried, crushed anise hyssop leaves
1 c. raisins
2-1/4 sticks butter
1-1/2 c. buttermilk
Mix all dry ingredients and raisins together. Add butter and cut in like pie crust until the mixture is crumbly. Add buttermilk. Mix just until all moistened and forms a ball.
Cut the dough in half.
Form each piece into an 8-inch circle. Cut each circle into 12 pieces. Place on cookie sheets and bake at 400 degrees F. until lightly golden. Cool and ice with a glaze made from 1/4 c. milk,
2 c. powdered sugar, and 1 tsp. vanilla (or anise extract). |
