Anise Raisin Scones

From Delight in the World of Anise Flavored Herbs Recipe Collection cookbook

4 1/2 c. flour
3 3/4 tsp. baking powder
1 1/8 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. sugar
2 tsp. anise seeds
1/4 c. dried, crushed anise hyssop leaves
1 c. raisins
2 1/4 sticks butter
1 1/2 c. buttermilk

Mix all dry ingredients and raisins together. Add butter & cut in like pie crust until the mixture is crumbly. Add buttermilk. Mix just until all moistened and forms a ball.

Cut the dough in half. Form each piece into an 8” circle. Cut each circle into 12 pieces. Place on cookie sheets and bake at 400 degrees until lightly golden.

Cool and ice with glaze made from 1/4 c. milk, 2 c. powdered sugar, and 1 tsp. vanilla (or anise extract).
